 Dust mites are not insects – they are related to spiders and ticks – and they are so small that they are not visible to the naked eye. First reported in the late 1600’s by the inventor of the microscope, dust mites measure only 1/100th of an inch – smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.
Dust mites love warm, humid areas such as bed pillows, mattresses, carpets, and upholstered furniture. They feed off of skin shed by people and their pets and are second only to pollen in causing allergic reactions.
